Find a rational number that is between 9.5 and 9.7. Explain why it is rational.

    A) 9.6 is a rational number between 9.5 and 9.7. It's rational because I can write it as a fraction, 48/5.

    B) The square root of 95 is an irrational number between 9.5 and 9.7. (I got this by trying numbers between 81 and 100, because those are the squares of 9 and 10.) It's irrational because I can't write it as a fraction. As a decimal, it's 9.75.

    Rational numbers can be written as fractions. Irrational cannot.
