Emily has $60. Out of the $60, she spends 50% on groceries. This grid represents $60. How many would I need to shade of the squares to represent the amount of money Emily spent on groceries.

    I think 30 squares.

    You would shade half of it because 50% is half of 100 or the total and 50% of 60 is 30. So if here is a square on the grid just shade of half.
