    5p + 9c = p subtract 9c from both sides=> 5p + 9c - 9c = p - 9c simplify=> 5p = p - 9c subtract p from both sides=> 5p - p = p - 9c - p simplify=> 4p = - 9c divide both sides by - 9 (to isolate c) = > 4p / - 9 = - 9c / - 9 4p/-9 = c, or c = 4p / - 9
