Jake tossed a paper cup 50 times and recorded how it landed. The table shows the results:

Number of Times Landed in Position:

Open Side Up: 2

Closed Side Up: 6

Landing on Side : 42

Based on the table, determine the experimental probability of each outcome (landing open side up, landing closed side up, and landing on its side). Show your work.

    Hey there, Lets solve this problem together.

    We know that Jake tossed a paper cup 50 times and recorded how it landed.

    Number of Times Landed in Position:

    Open Side Up: 2

    Closed Side Up: 6

    Landing on Side : 42

    42 + 6 + 2 = 50

    Therefore total number of flips is 50

    We have 3 different experimental probabilities here:

    1. landing open side up = (# of times it landed open sided up) / 50

    2. landed closed side up = (# of times it landed closed side up) / 50

    3. landed on its side = (# of times it landed on its side) / 50

    First of all, let's find the experimental probability of landing open side up.

    Question - How many times did the cup land open side up?

    Answer = 2 as stated in the given Table.

    = 2 out of 50

    = 1/25

    Question - what is the probability of landing closed side up?

    Answer = 6 out of 50

    = simplified to 3/25

    Question - what is the probability of landing on its side?

    Answer = 42/50

    = 21/25

    Therefore the questions have been solved.
