8 (5x+2) = 27
1. Distribute the 8 to both of the terms within the parentheses:
40x+16=27
2. Subtract 16 from both sides:
40x=11
3. Divide both sides on 40:
x=11/40
(you could do the actual division but this is an easier way to show 11 divided by 40)
4. Solution:
x=11/40
