    f (x) = x² + 4x - 1

    y = x² + 4x - 1

    y + 1 = x² + 4x - 1 + 1

    y + 1 = x² + 4x

    y + 1 + 4 = x² + 4x + 4

    y + 5 = x² + 2x + 2x + 4

    y + 5 = x (x) + x (2) + 2 (x) + 2 (2)

    y + 5 = x (x + 2) + 2 (x + 2)

    y + 5 = (x + 2) (x + 2)

    y + 5 = (x + 2) ²

    y + 5 - 5 = (x + 2) ² - 5

    y = (x + 2) ² - 5

    f (x) = (x + 2) ² - 5
