If we apply the Pythagorean theorem, which is A squared + B squared equals C Squared, and we know C equals 50 and A is twice as long as B, we know that A and B equal roughly 44.8 feet and 22.4 feet, respectively, which totals 67.2 feet. So cutting across the lawn is saving the children roughly 17.2 feet.
