Use the formula S A = 6s2, where S A is the surface and s is the edge length of the cube, to solve his problem.

Gavan must paint a cube-shaped box. The edge length of the box is 2 1/2 feet. What is the surface area of the box?

    To find the surface area of the cube using the formula, you would substitute in 2 1/2 for the length of the side.

    SA = 6 x 2.5 x 2.5

    SA = 37.5 ft.²
