If y varies directly as x and y = 20 when x = 6, what is the value of y when x = 24?

    The equation of that is y=kx

    Substitute it in and you get

    20=6k

    Divide 6 on both sides

    k=3 1/3

    Then since it asks what is the value of y when x is 24 use k in the equation

    y=3 1/3*24

    so y=80 is the answer
