The mean is the average number in a set of data, and to get it you add all of the numbers in the set and you divide the sum by the quantity of numbers in the set. For example:

    20, 13, 22, 17, 28

    Add them all together.

    20 + 13 + 22 + 17 + 28 = 100

Now divide the sum by 5, the quantity of numbers in the set.

    100/5 = 20

    20 would be the mean of 20, 13, 22, 17, 28.

And the maximum is the highest number in the set.

The maximum of 20, 13, 22, 17, 28 would be 28, because that is the highest number in the set.
