If you pay $26.50 for an item, including 6% sales tax, what was the original price?

    You can do this by dividing by 1.06

    26.5/1.06 = 25.00 dollars. You can check this by figuring out the sales tax separately

    25 * (6/100) = 1.50

    If you add 1.50 to 25 dollars, you get 26.5 just as you should.
