David wants to buy a CD that regularly cost $12. The CD is Advertised as 1/4 off the regular price. Before tax, what is the cost of the CD?

    12/4 = 3

    12 - 3 = 9

    So, before tax, the CD costs $9, as 1/4 of 12 is 9.
