What substitution should be used to rewrite x8 - 3x4 + 2 = 0 as a quadratic equation? u = x2 u = x4 u = x8 u = x16?

    If by x8 you mean X to the power of 8

    then the answer should be

    u = x4

    or X to the power of 4
