Divide by 6 means times 1/6
96=60+36
1/6 times 96=1/6 times (60+36) = 1/6 (60) + 1/6 (36) = 10+6=16

Distributive property of division: (a + b) : c = a : c + b : c
96 : 6 = (90 + 6) : 6 = 90 : 6 + 6 : 6 = (60 + 30) : 6 + 1
= 60 : 6 + 30 : 6 + 1 = 10 + 5 + 1 = 16
