Meredith is playing games at an arcade to earn tickets that she can exchange for a prize. She has 287 tickets from a previous visit, and she earns 5 tickets for each game she plays. In the equation below, x represents the number of games Meredith plays, and y represents the number of tickets she needs for the prize. y = 5x + 287 If Meredith needs 367 tickets to exchange for the prize she wants, how many games does Meredith need to play?

    Meredith needs to play 16 games.

    Y=367

    367=5x + 287

    -287

    80=5x

    80/5=x

    16=x

    if y=367

    then you need to figure out this:

    367=5x+287

    so remove 287 from 367

    367-287=80

    Then divide by 5

    80/5=16

    so, x=16
