Two numbers a and b are in the ratio 3:4. if the first number is decreased by 2 and the second is decreased by 1, they are in the ratio 2:3. find a and

    A/b=3/4, that is, 4a-3b=0

    (a-2) / (b-1) = 2/3, that is, 3a-2b=4

    Solving the equations, we have

    a=12, b=16
