A school principal ordered 1000 pencils. He gave an equal number to each of seven teachers until he had given as many as possible. How many pencils were left?

    6 pencils were left

    -1,000 divided by 7=142.86

    -142x7=994

    -1,000-994=6

    1000/7 = 142.857142857

    Because this is not an even number we take "142", then times it by 7 teachers.

    142*7 = 994

    1000 - 994 = 6 Pencils left
