a rectangle has a length of 24 inches and a width of 36 inches. a square with side length of 5 inches is cut from the middle and removed. what is the area of the figure that remains

    Area = lw so therefore your equation to would look like this: (24-5) * 36=684 sq ft. or you can set it up like this : 24*36=864

    5 inches = 180 St ft

    19*36=684=24*36-180=684

    The area of the original rectangle equals 864 inches. This minus the area of the square removed, which is 25 inches, equals a remaining area of 839 inches.
