8/12 is greater than 5/12.
This is easy to determine because both fractions have a common denominator, which is 12.
So we base our comparison solely in the numerator.
8 is greater than 5. Thus, 8/12 is greater than 5/12.
To further ensure that our answer is correct we can divide the fractions.
8/12 = 0.67; 5/12 = 0.42 = = = > 0.67 is greater than 0.42
