    Let's represent the price of a movie with m, and the price of a video game with v:

    4m + 8v = 57

    2m + 3v = 23

    I'm going to use the subtraction method:

    4m + 8v = 57

    -4m - 6v = - 46

    2v = 11

    v = 5.5

    Insert this variable:

    2m + 16.5 = 23

    2m = 6.5

    m = 3.25

    A movie costs $3.25 and a video game costs $5.50
