The Wares want to buy a new computer. The regular price is $1,049. The store is offering a 20% discount and a sales tax of 4.25% is added after the discount. What is the total cost?

    so if you offer 20% off of 1,049 you get 209.8. If the tax is 4.25% then do the math -._-. (thinking) ... 200.8835 and just do the lil bit of math to find your answer.

    Steps:

    Start with determining the discounted price:

    $1049 - discount 20% = 1049 - (0.2 * 1049) = 0.8*1049 = $839.2

    At the checkout they will add the sales tax on this (discounted) price, the tax amount is worth 4.25%

    tax = 839 * 0.0425 = $35.66

    and that gets added to the total to pay:

    $839.20 + $35.66 = $874.86
