    Sum of n and 8 = (n + 8)

    Multiplied by - 4 = - 4 * (n + 8)

    Result = - 12

    -4 * (n + 8) = - 12 Divide both sides by - 4

    (n + 8) = - 12/-4

    n + 8 = 3

    n = 3 - 8

    n = - 5.

    The number is - 5.

    (8+n) * - 4=-12

    -32-4n=-12

    -4n=20

    n=-5
