Answer: the store charged $0.025 per inch

    Step-by-step explanation:

A hardware store buys 300 feet of rope. We would convert 300 feet to inches. 12 inches make a foot. 300 feet will be 300*12 = 3600 inches

A costumer can buy 40 inches of rope for $1.60.

If 40 inches can be bought for $1.6

3600 inches will be bought for

    (3600 * 1.6) / 40 = 5760/40 = 144

So all the rope cost $144

All the rope is sold and the store makes a profit of $54. This means that the amount that the store paid for all the rope will be 144 - 54 = 90.

The store paid $90 for 3600 inches. The cost in dollar per inch will be

    90/3600 = $0.025
