Veronica is shopping for school clothes. She wants to buy pants and shirts. The cost of her clothes can be found using the expression 30x + 25y where x is the number of pants and y is the number of shirts. She will also have to pay 8% tax. If Veronica buys two pants and eight shirts, what expression could be used to determine the total cost of the bill including 8% tax?

    Hey there.

    I'll list the variables so we're clear.

    x = 2, y = 8

    So far the expression looks like this: (i'll come back to the 8%)

    30 (2) + 25 (8)

    60 + 200 = 260

    Cool, now we have the price before tax. We can add the sales tax by multiplying $260 by 8% as a decimal.

    260 · 0.08 = 20.80

    260 + 20.80 + 280.80

    The total cost of Veronica's bill is $280.80

    Cheers!
