    New average = 85.9.

    Step-by-step explanation:

Yes, the new class average can be calculated.

    The New total of the scores = 37*86 + 76 + 81 + 97

    = 3436.

    The new total of examinations sat = 37 + 3 = 40.

    Therefore the new class average = 3436 / 40

    = 85.9
