    C=chicken sandwich

    v=bowl of vegetable soup

    so Chris: 2c+3v=50 and

    Jim: 1c+2v=9.5

    so 2c+3v=50 and c+2v=9.5

    c+2v=9.5

    subtract 2 v from both sides

    c=9.5-2v

    subsitute c=9.5-2v for c in 2c+3v=50

    2 (9.5-2v) + 3v=50

    distribute

    19-4v+3v=50

    add like terms

    19-v=50

    add v to both sides

    19=50+v

    subtract 50 from both sides

    -31=v

    the value of foods are never negative so there is no solution

    2c + 3v = $50;

    1c + 2v = $9.50 / * 2;

    2c + 4v = $19; 2c + 3v + v = $19; $50 + v = $19; v = - $31; False, because v > 0;

    There is something wrong with this problem!
