The gasoline gauge on a van initially read one eighth 1 8 full. when 1010 gallons were added to the tank, the gauge read three fourths 3 4 full. how many more gallons are needed to fill the tank?

    3/4 - 1/8 = 6/8 - 1/8 = 5/8 ... so 5/8 = 10 gallons

    (5/8) / 10 = 1 / x

    cross multiply

    (5/8) (x) = (10) (1)

    5/8x = 10

    x = 10 * 8/5

    x = 80/5 = 16 < = = so it would take 16 gallons to fill the tank
