On six books shelves there are 72 books per shelf. How many books are there altogether? If 1/3 of these are non-fiction how many fictional books are there?

    Given:

    Total shelves: 6

    Books per shelve: 72

    Total books = ?

    Solution:

    Total books: 6 * 72 = 432

    Total books = 432

    Part 2:

    Given:

    Fiction books = 1/3 of total books

    Solution:

    Nonfiction books = Total books - 1/3 of total books

    = 432 - 1/3 * 432

    = 432 - 166 = 266

    Non - fiction books = 266
