A welder cut a piece of metal so that it fits tightly into its spot. The welder cuts 9/16 of an inch off the metal so that it measures 3 3/4 inches. What was the size of the original piece?

a) 3 3/16

b) 3 7/16

c) 4 3/16

    D) 4 5/16. add 9/16 and 3/4 = 21/16 then you divide 21 by 16 = 1 and 5 remainder, then you put the 5 over the 16 [ 5/16 ]. then add the 3 + 1 = 4. Thats how you get the answer.
