    Distribute first:

    6x - 18 + 4x + 8 = 17x - 51 - 2x - 4

    Combine like terms:

    10x - 10 = 15x - 55

    Subtract 10x from both sides and add 55 to both sides to get variables on one side and constants on the other:

    - 10 + 55 = 15x - 10x

    Combine like terms:

    45 = 5x

    Divide by 5 on both sides to isolate the variable:

    45 / 5 = x

    9 = x
