Suppose you have a budget of 450 dollars for one month. You would like to buy some textbooks and CDs. The average cost of a book is 55 dollars each and that of a CD is12 dollars each. Let x denote the number of books you buy and y denote thenumber of CDs that you buy. This is what I have tried and I just cannot get the right answer. Write the equation of your budget constraint in the form y=mx+b, where m and b are some numbers. y=55x+450 andy=4.58x+37.5

    Answer: The equation is y = - 4.58 x + 37.5

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Hi, to write the equation we have to analyze the information given:

    Cost of a book (x) = $55 Cost of a CD (y) = $12 Budget = $450

    So, we have to multiply the cost of each book ($55) by the number of books purchased (x) and add the number of CDs purchased (y) multiplied by the cost of each cd ($12).

    The expression obtained has to be equal to the budget we have.

    Mathematically speaking:

    55x + 12y = 450

    Isolating the variable "y"

    12y = - 55x + 450

    y = - 4.58 x + 37.5
