If the function f is defined by function f of x (2 times x) plus 3, and if function f of a equals 11, what is the value of a?

    F (x) = 2x + 3

    f (a) = 2a + 3

    when f (a) = 11

    11 = 2a + 3

    therefore 2a = 8

    and a = 4
