Find the slope of the line described by 3x + 2y + 1 = 0.

    3x + 2y + 1 = 0

    subtract 3x+1 from each side

    3x + 2y + 1 - 3x - 1 = - 3x - 1

    2y = - 3x-1

    divide by 2 on each side

    2y/2 = - 3x/2 - 1/2

    y = - 3/2 x - 1/2

    this is in the form y = mx + b where m is the slope

    m = - 3/2

    the slope is - 3/2
