Hello there! The base of $15 is the fixed amount that he earns this week. Since we're solving an equation to figure out how many pamphlets need to be delivered to make $100, we set up the equation like this:

    15 + 0.17p = c

We set it up like this, because you earn a base of $15, but you earn $0.17 per pamphlet delivered. The amount of pamphlets delivered and the base combined brings us to the total cost, which is represented by "c". The first step to solve this is to subtract 15 from both sides and when you do, you get 0.17p = 85. Now, we divide each side by 0.17 to isolate the "p". 85/0.17 is 500. There. p = 500. Jordan needs to deliver 500 pamphlets in order to earn $100.
