The length of a rectangle is 4 in. longer than its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 40 in., what is the area?

    Let, width = x

    length = x+4

    perimeter, 2 (x+4+x) = 40

    4x+8 = 40

    4x = 32

    x = 8

    so, (x+4) = 8+4 = 12

    so, area would be = 12 * 8 = 96 in²
