Solve the linear equation by elimination: 2x + 5y = 16

3x - 5y = - 1

    2x+5y=16

    3x-5y+-1

    add the equations together to get

    -x=15

    x=-15

    plug in - 15 for x

    2 (-15) + 5y=16

    -30+5y=16

    5y=46

    y=46/5
