    The cost of a pair of trousers and a shirt is $46 and $3 respectively.

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Let us assume the pairs of trousers be X

    And, the pairs of trousers be Y

    So, the first equation is

    2X + 3Y = $101

    And, the second equation is

    7X + 3Y = $331

    Now substituting this two equations

    2X + 3Y = $101

    7X + 3Y = $331

    -5X = - $230

    X = $46

    Now put the X values in one of the equation to find out the Y value

    So,

    2 * $46 + 3Y = $101

    $92 + 3Y = $101

    Y = $3
