A piece of pipe is 303/4 inches long. If five pieces, each 41/3 inches long, are cut from the pipe, how many inches of pipe remain?

    To determine how much of the pipe is left after it was cut, we simply subtract the total length that was cut from the original length of the pipe. We calculate the total length by multiplying the length of the smaller portions of the pipe to the number of this section are made. Then, from the total length we subtract the total length of the smaller sections. We do as follows:

    Total length of the smaller sections = 5 (41/3 inches) = 205/3 inches

    Pipe left = 303/4 inches - 205/3 inches = 89/12 inches

    Therefore, after cutting five sections from the pipe, you would be left with 89/12 inches pipe length.
