I think of a number, take away 4 and multiply the result by 2

Write this as an algebraic question using x as and number

    Let x be this number. Now translate the English into math language:

    a) number is x

    b) take away 4 = x-4

    c) multiply the result by 2 = 2 (x-4)

    So this number is 2 (x-4) or 2x-8
