Solve the equation for 1 and 5:

    1^2 + 4 = 1+4 = 5

    5^2 + 4 = 25 + 4 = 29

    Find the difference:

    29 - 5 = 24

Find the difference of the X values: 5-1 = 4

Rate of change is the change in Y over the change in X:

The rate of change would be: 24/4 = 6
