The population of a country has been increasing for several decades. In 1990, the population was about 242 million people. In 2014, the population was about 289 million people. Determine the percent increase in the country's population during this time period.

    To calculate percentage increase. Subtract old and new value. Then divide answer by old value then multiply by 100:

    289 - 242 = 47

    47: 242 * 100 = 19.4% (rounded to 2 s. f)
