    The answer is D, I believe. The problem starts off with 12 and subtracts "a", which represents the given apples.

    on A. you would want to divide the apples by how many friends he has.

    on B. he would have to go back and ask his friends how many he gave to him.

    on C. you would just add 12+12 and then you would have 24.

    on D. it would be the same as question B
