    1/6 = x / 42 ... 1 adult to 6 kids = x adults to 42 kids

    cross multiply because this is a proportion

    (6) (x) = (1) (42)

    6x = 42

    x = 42/6

    x = 7 ... so there are 7 adults to 42 kids

    Since theres 1 adult per 6 children just divide 42 by 6 and you've got the answer! : D
