    Given the quadratic equation, (x + 2) ^2 = a.

    And, x = 1

    Solving for the value of a

    (x + 2) ^2 = a.

    a = (x + 2) ^2

    a = (1 + 2) ^2

    a = 3^2

    a = 9

    The value of a is 9
