Steve is turning half of his backyard into a chicken pen. His backyard is a 242424 meter by 454545 meter rectangle. He wants to put a chicken wire fence that stretches diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner.

    The rectangle measures, 24 m by 45 m

    Therefore, to get the diagonal we use the Pythagoras theorem

    a²+b²=c², then

    = √24²+45²

    = √2601

    = 51

    Therefore, Steve will need

    51+24+45 = 120 meters
