    The answer is - 14

    Explanation:

    x - 8 = 2x + 6

    We move all term to the left

    x - 8 - (2x + 6) = 0

    We get rid of parentheses

    x - 2x - 6 - 8 = 0

    We add all the numbers together, and all the variables

    -1x - 14 = 0

    We move all terms containing x to the left, all other term to the right

    -x = 14

    x = 14/-1

    x = - 14
