    L=length, W=width. Perimeter is

    P=2L+2W=34 also

    L=2W-4

    solve this system of 2 equations by substitution. Put 2nd equation into first:

    2 (2W-4) + 2W=34

    4W-8+2W=34

    6W=42

    W=42/6

    W=7

    Now since L=2W-4

    L=2 (7) - 4

    L=10
