Brand is combining the leftovers from two batches of chili to serve for dinner tonight. There are 1 1/3 cups of chili left over from the first batch of chili, and there are 3 3/4 total cups of chili left over.

1 1/3 + x = 3 3/4

How many cups of chili were left over from the second batch of chili?

    Find the common factor in the fractions by multiplying the bottom numbers together

    1/3 3/4

    4*3

    1 4/12 + x = 3 9/12

    3 9/12 - 1 4/12

    2 5/12 = x
