The commutative property of addition states that you can change the order of addends in a sum. The associative property of addition states that you can change the grouping of addends in a sum. Use an example to show how the communative property of addition and the associative property of addition apply to adding decimals

    Commutative:

    a+b+c=a+c+b

    1.3+23.4+3.4=23.4+1.3+3.4

    Associative:

    (a+b) + c=a + (b+c)

    (1.3+3.4) + 23.4=1.3 + (3.4+23.4)
