First you need to add 3 to each side.
3x - 3 + 3 = 4x - 14 + 3
Then combine like terms
3x = 4x - 11
Next subtract 4x from each side
3x - 4x = - 11
-1x = - 11
Then divide by - 1 to each side
x = 11
